Plot Outline: A loyal Roman general (Russell Crowe) is betrayed by an insecure, power-hungry young ruler (Joaquin Phoenix.) After his family is murdered and he is forced to become a slave, the general returns to Rome as a gladiator, seeking revenge and justice.
Scene: Winning another astounding victory in a Coliseum battle, the crowd’s favorite gladiator catches the new Emperor’s interest. When he demands that the gladiator reveal his true identity, the Emperor is shocked to find himself face to face with the man he thought he had executed.
